JOB PURPOSE AND OBJECTIVES

SAP SuccessFactors’ Disaster Recovery team manages and governs the DR readiness in all SuccessFactors datacenters worldwide and ensures that all applications meet functional and performance require-ments. We seek a Technical Writer to assist with the documentation and management of all DR-related activities, while adhering to SAP SuccessFactors standards. This position will be based in Budapest, Hungary and will work in close collaboration with local and worldwide colleagues.

SUMMARY OF EXPECTATIONS AND TASKS

As a technical writer, you will support an ongoing DR program by: (1) writing technical recovery procedures, (2) assisting with DR exercises per a documented DR plan, and (3) improving on current processes. Your deliverables will help Operations and other parties to better understand how to recover from a catastrophic event and perform routine maintenance for DR sites, as well as improve communication within and beyond your team. To do so, you will closely liaise with other departments and use your editorial ability to produce training material and technical publications. Delivering courses and workshops are additional tasks that you may enjoy. You will also work with your team to write general standards and guidelines, create templates, and presentations that apply to everyone. Additionally, you will be driving continuous improvement, specify new process requirements and customer-initiated activity to ensure customer satisfaction and success.

SUMMARY OF SKILLS

The Technical Writer candidate must demonstrate strong technical, organizational, writing, and problem-solving skills. The candidate must also be detail-oriented, well-versed in network, storage and database management, possess the ability to multi-task, and work under moderate supervision. Fluency in English language is a must.

Key Areas of Responsibility and Tasks:

  • Write technical recovery procedures for restoring data and IT services at a secondary site following a catastrophic event at the primary data center.

  • Assist with DR exercises per a documented DR plan, including design of a “test cookbook.”

  • Document post-test issues and steps for resolution; publish results in a formal report for customers, internal peers and third-party auditors.

  • Analyze current processes and provide recommendations for improving performance and simplicity.

  • Create documents for handover of new DR environments to Operations staff.

  • Formalize runbooks for performing routine maintenance at DR sites.

  • Act as liaison with other departments and use editorial ability to produce training material and technical publications. Deliver courses and workshops.

  • Collaborate with peer technologists such as database administrators, network engineers, storage engineers, platform engineers, application SMEs, and third-party vendors.

  • Write general standards, recommend guidelines, create templates and produce presentations.

  • Drive continuous improvement, specify new process requirements and support customer-initiated activity to ensure customer satisfaction and success.

  • Provide weekly reports on project status to management and executive boards.

REQUIREMENTS

Competencies & Skills:

  • While a detailed knowledge of HCM Cloud product set is not required, must be prepared to rapidly obtain strong familiarly with all products and technology set

  • Knowledge of documentation tools, version control systems (Git), designing UML diagrams, etc.

  • Very good knowledge and understanding of technical documentation processes and tasks, as well as standards and guidelines for writing customer-oriented documentation

  • Understanding of complex technical concepts and the ability to convert this knowledge into clear and customer-friendly documentation

  • Solid understanding of Enterprise / Service Provider Data Center Architecture (high-density servers, backbone routers/switches, load balancers, SAN/NAS)

  • Data Center operations experience in a high availability environment

  • Experience with Linux (SUSE or Red Hat) and at least one enterprise database (Oracle, HANA, MS SQL Server, or MySQL)

  • Familiarity with Oracle Dataguard and Oracle GoldenGate is highly desired

  • Experience with vSphere/vCenter is highly desired

  • Solid understanding of IT security, backups and disaster recovery principles is required

  • Experience supporting global Web-based applications and technology (https, smtp, DNS, ldap, sftp, etc.

  • Enthusiasm about technical writing and an open eye on new trends; actively contribute to frequent discussions aimed at continuous improvement of our tools, processes, and guidelines.

  • Ability to work under pressure as well as meet targets on-time and within budget.

  • Ability to manage priorities and shift focus appropriately, following Project manager’s instructions

  • Strong interpersonal skills to work effectively with internal customers and peers

Experience & Language Requirements:

  • Must have 3 years of experience as a Technical Writer/Trainer/Lecturer in the IT or Software Development field

  • 3 years of experience in key areas including enterprise disaster recovery, datacenter operations, network design, datacenter capacity assessment, continuity planning, and systems engineering

  • Experience with Microsoft Office (e.g., Word, Excel, etc.)

  • Proven, excellent verbal and written communication skills in English (i.e., full professional proficiency)

  • Bachelors or Master’s Degree

  • Very good, to excellent university degree in technical writing or in IT-related subjects with additional knowledge of technical communication.

  • Alternatively, a language-based university degree or a very good degree in journalism, communication, or English, with a proven interest in technology topics

Desired but not required:

  • Industry Technical Certifications (e.g., CCNA, CCNP, OCA, RHCE, etc.)

  • ITIL v3 certification

It is a c-user, 1 year fixed term position.
