Role Summary:

This position will serve as the Lead Unix/Linux Engineer within the GE Capital Vulnerability Management team. The Senior VM analyst will work within the framework of established operating procedures in various infrastructure environments within the businesses. This may include enhancing current processes and tools to meet the requirements of the new organisation as well as partnering with Digital Technology in the development of GE wide tools and processes.

Essential Responsibilities:

Focus will be on both the hardware and operating system aspects of infrastructure environments in order to maintain and deliver optimum performance, compliance, service availability and operational excellence.

  • Serve as the lead Unix/Linux Engineer on core OS vulnerability identification and remediation strategies for Capital businesses globally.

  • Lead the development of Linux/Unix vulnerability management solutions that can be leveraged globally by multiple service providers.

  • Provide guidance and consultation to Capital businesses on remediation strategies and solutions specific to each business environment.

  • Evaluate and coordinate with external service providers and business units to ensure operational processes and SLAs are in alignment with the Global VM Standards.

  • Serve as the technical lead on other Unix/Linux initiatives that impact enterprise security posture to include Lifecycle Management, Obsolescence and Build

  • Assist in driving operational excellence through all environments and initiatives working in conjunction with Capital teams globally as well as strategic partners/vendors.

  • Development & maintenance of solution documentation ensuring materials are complete and current

  • Lead analysis to solve complex problems and business-related issues.

  • Mitigate risk to application and infrastructure environments by thoroughly assessing the impact of system changes/releases


  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science or a STEM related Degree

  • Strong experience in Information Technology

  • Working knowledge of Solaris and Linux (Oracle and Red Hat)

  • Working knowledge and experience with Solaris Live Upgrade and Red Hat Yum updates

  • Experience managing large infrastructure related upgrade & deployment projects across a global, highly matrixed organization

  • Knowledge of Storage technologies NAS & SAN

  • Knowledge of Backup Solutions (Backup Exec, NetBackup)

  • Knowledge of Network Based technologies

  • Working knowledge of a broad range of current IT security platforms and technologies

Desired Characteristics:

  • Significant enterprise vulnerability management experience to include patch management and remediation activities in a large company

  • Hands-on experience with scanning tools

  • Familiarity with ServiceNow CMDB and Archer GRC tools

  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills - communicates in a clear and succinct manner, anticipates obstacles and develops plans to resolve

  • Security related certifications (i.e. CISSP, CEH, CISM, CISA, CSSLP, CCNP)

  • Experience with scripting languages (Python, Ruby, Perl) and BI tools (Tableau, SiSense)

  • Good analytical skills, attention to detail and ability to methodically troubleshoot complex issues

  • Good analytical and negotiation skills

  • Good communication and presentations skills
